Katie’s Power Move Divorcing Tom
While my first husband was not Tom Cruise, I remember what it felt like to be Katie Holmes, overshadowed, to be submissive and to defer to another’s opinion instead of trusting my own truth.
And with my second husband, I know what it’s like to be taken to court to try to have my son taken away from me with sole custody. Even though I was divorced, I was either hiding, settling or over-reacting with anger and threats.
The biggest opportunity for “we” women, whether it’s divorce by choice with Katie or choosing to stand in truth, honesty and fierce mother bear love on the stand as I did… is to take the time to Know, Live & Speak our Truth.
Sometimes it takes unfulfilling marriages or tumultuous divorces to wake us up, yet every woman can be proactive today and take weekly journaling time, bath time or a walk in the woods to check into her heart, her soul, her truth.
Every woman from any background has access to the same fire of courage within to speak her truth and take one small step, make one positive choice a day in the direction of being honored, valued and celebrated for who she is.
And she’s never alone unless she chooses, there are churches, coaches, shelters, women’s groups, meet ups, online communities- women supporting women is available, accessible and effective- you just have to take a breath, be vulnerable and courageous, show up and ask for help.
Katie seems to have taken the time, energy, resources and support to make a bold move toward personal freedom for her and her child. While I don’t know her, I imagine the journey wasn’t easy, that she faced fears, doubts, risk of rejection and an uncertain future… yet her truth, her north star pulled her through.
