Silliness for the Sanity
As moms, we spend a lot of our parenting time doing our best to raise really good kids that we hope will grow up to be really great adults. Because of this, we spend the majority of our parenting time focusing on discipline and correcting their behavior.
I’ve noticed that my time spent disciplining cuts into silly time. There just isn’t enough silly time. Silly time is great for being able to start things with a fresh perspective and it helps the kids to cooperate a little better.
My recommendation is to be silly at least once a day with your kids. One of the silly things we do in our home is put on some music, climb up on the coffee table and dance our little butts off! This keeps the kids off the table tops other times as they associate the coffee table top as our special dance floor. See that? I snuck some discipline in there without them even realizing!
Other silly things we do together are just for the sole purpose of being silly. If it is time to go to the grocery store, say on a Saturday morning but we are still on our PJs, we just go in our PJs. Other times we have little picnics and break the monotony of always sitting down at the kitchen table for meals. Anyplace different than normal works for having a fun picnic with your kids; go to the front porch, or even up in the tree house in the backyard. Bring your pillows up there and your books and have a really good time having fun being silly as a mom.>
