Rituals of Grandparents and their Grandkids!
Rituals are often forgotten in our fast paced world. Yet grandchildren love regular consistent time with grandparents who remind them of simple pleasures.
For example, as an Intimacy Expert, I don’t only coach romantic relationships. Intimacy broken down is IN TO ME, YOU SEE… the ability to take time to go within and share what’s important.
I have coached my grandparent clients to begin a Skype call every two weeks. To open each call, do a show and tell, both the grandparents and grandchildren,… so simple and yet consistent.
Next is to be the safe space where the grandkids can tell them anything. Being present and really listening, caring and asking follow-up questions, make kids feel important and valued.
Questions like, Tell me something funny that happened to you, scary that happened or something you’re really proud of. Tell me something someone said that made you mad, tell me something you’d like to try but are afraid…
There is no need to give advice unless you feel it’s appropriate, I believe that’s the parent’s job, yet sharing a story of when they were young… when they felt that way too… is such a huge gift to children’s full self-expression.>
